Leslie grew up and attended grade school in Danbury. He graduated from Decatur Community HS in 1931. After high school, Leslie joined CCC for two years. He then went to Alaska where he and a partner leased a claim to mine gold. During WWII, he was inducted into the US Army March 10, 1943. He served with the 389th Engineer GS Regiment and subsequently was involved in the European Theater attaining the rank of Tec 5 before his honorable discharge November 3, 1945.
On October 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Anna Ruth Miesner in Oberlin. They made their home on a farm near Indianola, NE. They were blessed with four children, eight grandchildren, one step grandchild and 2 step-great-grandchildren all of whom survive him.
Leslie was a farmer, rancher and soil conservation contractor in Decatur and Red Willow counties. He was a lifetime member of the Lebanon VFW and American Legion and a member of the Mountain Slope Lodge 186, Oberlin. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and bowling.
Surviors iclude his wife, Anna Ruth, sons James (Linley), Thomas (Barb) and Jack (Kerry) and a daughter Sue ( Michael) Baird, two sisters, Neva Page Campbell and June Saum both of Oberlin. He was preceded in death by his parents; John Irvin and Bernice (Parker) Brown and his step-mother Ila Brown; and brother Dean Brown.
