SOUTH BEND - Constance (Connie) Nichols Schrock, 85, died peacefully in her sleep at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in Regency Place, South Bend. She was born November 18, 1922, in Anderson, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her first husband Horace Davis Nichols (Nick) and her second husband, David Schrock. She had two brothers, Richard Brane (deceased) and John Brane of Santa Clara, CA. She is survived by three children, Penny Nichols Hughes (Jim), Greg Nichols (Maria) and Mark Nichols (Elizabeth); and six grandchildren, Scott Hughes (Lisa), Shari Hughes Rodes (Paul), Stacey Hughes Gershman (Mark), Jesse Nichols, Lucas Nichols and Tamara Meyers. She is also survived by seven great-granddaughters, Betsy, Emma, Sophia, Ava, Ella, Erin and Haley. Connie grew up in Anderson, IN and Chesterfield, IN, but spent much of her adult life in California. She was past president of her sorority, and past president of the American Legion Auxillary, Anderson, Indiana. While living in California she was an avid fossil collector and "rockhound", and was the editor of her local club newsletter. She was a private secretary for two eye doctors in California. While a member of the Crystal Cathedral she was a volunteer in crisis counseling. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to Regency Place and all it's staff for their kindness and support the last four years. Services will be held in California at the Crystal Cathedral where she will be interred in the Eternity garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, South Bend, In.
