Alamosa, Colo. resident Claudia Acuna Castanon, 21, passed away Oct. 28, 2007, as a result of an automobile accident. Claudia was born Sept. 10, 1986, the daughter of Gustavo Acuna Gutierrez and Blanca and Andres Montoya. She was a student at Trinidad State Junior College, as well as a waitress at the Lamplighter and Blanca's Fiesta Restaurant. Claudia enjoyed listening to music, going to parties, making people laugh, and spending time with her loving family and friends.
Survivors include her husband Jose Acencio of the family home in Alamosa; daughter Xitlaly Anai Acencio of Alamosa; mother and step-father Blanca and Andres Montoya of Alamosa; father Gustavo Acuna Gutierrez of Juarez, Mexico; maternal grandmother Carmen Munoz of Menchaca, Jerez, Zac., Mexico; paternal grandparents Manuel and Jobita Acuna of Juarez; paternal grandparents Henry and Manuelita Montoya of Salida, Colo; three sisters Manuelita Montoya and Mercy Montoya of La Jara and Gabrielle Montoya of Chama, Colo; two brothers Gustavo Acuna Castanon (Veronica) of Alamosa; Gilberto Andres Montoya Jr. of Chama, as well as by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Claudia was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Guadalupe ‘Lupillo' Castanon.
A prayer service was held on Fri, Nov. 2, 2007, at 7 pm at the Grace Chapel in San Luis. A funeral service was held on Nov. 3, 2007, at 11 am at Grace Chapel. Interment followed at the Church of God in Christ Cemetery in San Luis. Friends called Wednesday from 1-5 at Romero Funeral Home in Alamosa and on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 at Romero Funeral Chapel in San Luis, Colo, who is in care of the arrangements.
