Married
Mr. George W. Janes of this place and Mrs. Laura A. Stalter of Wichita were married at Fairview by Rev. H. Alva Fletcher on last Wednesday. The groom is 74 and is an old resident of Cleo. The bride is younger and comes well recommended. She came to Cleo three weeks ago and it was here she first met Mr. Janes. Rev. and Mrs. Fletcher entertained them at their home in Fairview during their stay there and the next day they returned to Cleo and they are now nicely established in one of the groom's cottages in town. We offer hearty congratulations.

OBITUARY

No time for a last farewell
No time for the shock of fear
Scarcely a moment's halt on the shore
With the guide and the boatman near-
Dear, how surprised you were to go,
With little to suffer, little to know.
Only a moment of dark,
A dream of the fleeting night,
And then the beautiful break of day
And the quiet peace of light,
And you found yourself where you longed to stand,
In the repose of the fatherland.

Laura Anna Hickman, daughter of Marshall and Mary Hickman, was born at Quaint (sic) Dell, W. Va., September 6, 1844. She was united in marriage with David Stalter of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, March 5, 1869. To this union was born six children, two of whom are deceased and four yet survive. These are: Mrs. Lee Miller of Exeter; Mrs. Rosa Hill of Udall, Kans.; Mrs. Carrie Whitsell of Conway Sprins (sic), Kans.; and Mrs. Pearl Murphy of St. Joseph, Mo.

This relation was severed by death of Mr. Stalter February 3, 1906. She was united in marriage with Solomon Cloud at Geneva April 25, 1916, and has since that time resided in Nora. She was converted and united with the church in early life and maintained her church membership until her death. She was free to speak of her hope in Christ and had lately seemed to be conscious that the end was not far away and often expressed her readiness to go. The end came peacefully about six o'clock Saturday morning, March 17, 1917.

The funeral was conducted by Mr. Roby of Nelson from the Methodist church at Nora, Rev. Smith of Nora, preaching the funeral sermon. She was laid to rest in the Cloud lot in Nora cemetery Monday following.

With Thee, my Lord, with Thee, I do not fear
To cross the threshold of the mystic door;
I shall not falter if I find Thee near,
For Thou hast paced the portico before.
Let me but feel Thy hand, Thy features see,
I shall emerge in happiness with Thee
