Bethany Rae (Wilkinson) Thompson, 51, she died on June 28, 2008, of cancer in Salt Lake City, with family by her side.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1956, in Lander. She grew up on a cattle ranch in Red Canyon and later on Squaw Creek near Lander.

She was always an outdoors girl and her abilities in softball, soccer and track and field led to being named the first Lander Valley High School Female Athlete of the Year. She was rewarded with athletic scholarships to Metro State College in Denver, where she was a member of the two-time National Champion Volleyball Team. In 2004, she attended the team induction into the NCAA Hall of Fame.

She was educated and worked in the medical field in Phoenix and Prescott, Ariz., Eugene, Ore. and various local medical facilities, including Sutter Coast Hospital and their Clinic in Brookings.

She commercial tuna fished for one season, sailed as crew member aboard the tall-ship Lady Washington on the Oregon Coast, and worked for the Port of Brookings.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, and was the Relay for Life Grand Marshall in 2004.

Her friends called her a wildflower for her zest for life.

She loved the ocean, sailing, motorcycling, kayaking, jewelry making and oil painting.

A continuing competitor in adult life she competed in mountain biking in Arizona and Oregon.

She is survived by her husband Dan of Brookings, Ore., daughter, Cammie Edson and her husband Jack of Longmont, Colo., father, JT Wilkinson and his wife of Prescott, mother, Barbara Larremore, sister, Julie Wilkinson, half-brother Jason Larremore all of Lander, brother, Brad Wilkinson and his wife of Salt Lake City, nieces and nephews.

Her brother Bart preceded her in death.
