Lonnie Aaron "Dark Chocolate" Andrews Jr., 18, of the 800 block of Carolyn Drive, departed this life July 1, 2008. He was found on a lawn in the 800 block of Lindale Drive, off Campostella Road, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Chesapeake General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was born in Newport News, Virginia on May 31, 1990 to Lonnie Aaron Andrews, Sr. and Emma Mae Spencer.

Lonnie was a recent graduate and an oft-honored running back of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA, June 2008, who had signed to play football at Virginia State University in Petersburg on a full athletic scholarship in the fall. He rushed for 1,049 yards and scored 17 touchdowns during the 2007 season. He was also on the Oscar Smith track and field team.

He capped his senior season by being named second-team All-Tidewater and second-team All-Region, and he was first-team all-district. He finished his career ranked third on the school's all-time career rushing list.

He was funny and easy-going with a tough exterior.

He was a member of Higher Life Ministries and previously attended DeBaun Memorial Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist.

Lonnie was predeceased by his grandfathers, Hezekiah Spencer, Manuel Garland and Earl Abbott Sr.; grandmothers, Sarah Jane Spencer and Queen Ester Andrews; great grandmothers, Marie Killingsworth and Georgianna Andrews; aunts, Ruth Sowell, Shirley Goodrich and Elizabeth Seward; and uncles, Joseph Killingsworth, Bennie Killingsworth, Fred Killingsworth, Earl Abbott Jr., and Tony Alexander.

In addition to Lonnie's parents, he is survived by his aunt, Marie Abbott and husband, Thomas; three brothers, Antoine Spencer and wife, Aniyah; Eric Billups and fiancee, Tenesha; and T.J. Abbott; two sisters, Ebony Spencer and Briana Green and husband, Terrence; three uncles, Mark Andrews and wife, Betty, Rodney Andrews, John Andrews and wife, April; two aunts, Phyllis Abbott-Alexander and Eunice Banks; grandparents, Lawrence Andrews and wife, Mattie, and Pearl Abbott; and Lonnie's girlfriend, Diamond DeLoatch.

The visitation was held at Deep Creek Baptist Church 250 Mill Creek Parkway, Chesapeake on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with the service at 11:00am.
