Dietrick W. Schmidt, 77, of Eau Claire passed away June 29, 2008, at Bloomer Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1931, to Albert and Elizabeth (Hartl) Schmidt. He attended Cleghorn School and Eau Claire Senior High School. He married Donna Wingad on March 19, 1955. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 6, 1956, served through Dec. 31, 1961, and was stationed in Germany. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers!
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna; three sons, Timothy (Patti) Schmidt of Fall Creek, Steven (Annette) Schmidt of Eau Claire and Daniel (Kelli) Schmidt of Prospect, Ky.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria (David) Fischer, of Canton, Ohio; five sisters-in-law, Oscora Schmidt, Margie (Charles) Flaskrud, Judy Marquardt, Kathy Knudtson and Janet Heister; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norman (Pearl), Howard (Jeanetta) and Harold; and one sister-in-law, Audrey Erickson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altoona, with the Rev. Jeffery Lambrecht officiating. Interment will be at Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum in Eau Claire.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. military service by American Legion Post 550. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
