My most loving grandfather who always called me his "Miss America". Grandpa Riede fought in WWI in France. He never talked about it except to say "Oh those Madamaselles" and he would kiss his fingertips and laugh. He loved to play the ponies and smoke cigars. He met my grandmother on One Mustard Steet in Brooklyn where he "picked her up" or to hear her tell it she "picked him up". He was a salesman for Frenchs Mustard and use to get really mad when he sat at his own table and saw Bauer's Mustard! He had one brother Louis (Ludwig) Riede and one sister Caroline (Carrie). Elizabeth (Betty) Riede and Harry ran off to New Jersey to get married - or at least that was what my grandmother said. My great-grandmother invited them in to her parlor when they returned and then called the preacher who married them again - just to be sure!!!Found license recorded in Brooklyn -11/28/1917 My mother Ruth Louise Riede was their only child. She adored her father. Harry went away to upstate New York for a year when they discovered TB and Frenchs Mustard continued to pay his salary. My grandfather would be glad to know it is my son Jonathan's favorite mustard. My grandfather was also a bookie. I thought they were too poor to have a telephone when I was growing up but their home had been raided by the police and they lost phone service as a punishment. Harry once took my brother Bob around on his numbers pick-ups and my Dad was furious. In later life he worked in a florist shop on Metropolitan Avenue near the Lutheran Cemetery. They lived in Middle Village most of their lives. Daughter Ruth Louise Riede Mantei Mahr, Grandchildren: Robert W. Mantei, Judith Mantei Braddick (me) & Patricia Mantei Titko. Great grand children: Brian Titko, Lori Braddick Johnson, Jason Titko, Jonathan Braddick, Justin Titko, Ashley Tiko. Great Great Grandchildren: Nikole Tiko and Miranda Tiko(Ashley's daughters), Courtney Titko, Brian's daughter,

Gavin and Caden Titko (Justin's children), and Noah Johnson and Christian Riede Johnson (Lori's children) and Ruth Vivian Braddick and Marianne Alice Braddick(Jonathan's daughters)

He is the son of Carl Ernst & Elizabeth Dietrich Riede

After a DNA test it is possible he may not be Ruth Riede's biological father. He returned from WWI on March 7, 1919. Ruth was born on Nov 19, 1919. William Arthur Eaton may have been her biological father?????
