Harry E. Burge Sr., 82, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at his residence in Nineveh.

He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Indianapolis, to the late James and Flora Burge.

He married his loving wife of 52 years, Jean M. (Wright) Burge, in February 1956 in Indianapolis. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Pamela D. (Mark) Nelson of Nineveh; three sons, Harry E. Burge Jr. of Edinburgh, Larry Burge of Trafalgar and Frank J. Burge of Nineveh; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He was a 1944 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

Harry served his country as a seaman second class with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II.

He retired in 1964 as a carpet installer with Hertz Carpet Service in Columbus after 22 years of service. After retirement, he worked in sales for Piston Service in Indianapolis for 16 years.

He loved to spend time with his family and frineds. Harry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and mushroom hunting. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Jimmie Johnson.

Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Martinsville American Legion and VFW honor guard.
