Charles Roger Babin Sr., 84, a native and resident of Houma, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Visitation at Chauvin Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Word will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by three sons, Charles Babin Jr. and Dale Babin of Houma and Robin Babin of Westminster, Colo.; one daughter, Corliss Babin of Houma; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Phelps Babin of Westminster; two sisters-in-law, Irene Perman Babin of Panorama City, Calif., and Paula Chaisson Chauvin of Covington; seven grandchildren, Krishna Doucet of Denver, Spring Hericks of San Antonio, Cher Threlkeld of Denver, Katlin Babin of Canton, Ohio, and Jordan Babin, Emily Babin and Joshua Babin of Westminster; and three great-grandchildren, Avery Hericks and Ally Hericks of San Antonio, and Spencer Charles Threlkeld of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes Marie Chaisson Babin; his parents, Roger M. Babin and Allie Blanchard Babin; and one brother, Carlys J. Babin.

He worked for Baker Oil Tools Inc., as a security guard at Terrebonne General Hospital and as an agent for Wells Fargo Armored Car Service.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater of operations, North Africa, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was honorably discharged a technical sergeant with four battle stars.

During the Korean War he joined the Louisiana National Guard Company C, 156th Infantry, but was not called to duty.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
