Mathias Altenhofen was born in Trier, Germany, April 30, 1858. He received his education in Germany and then came to America and lived in Wisconsin, where he lived for 1 year. From there he moved to Buckman, where he was married. This was about 39 years ago. From Buckman he moved to the farm 4 ½ miles east of Pierz, where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his wife and 9 children: Mrs. Amelia Altenhofen, Jake, of Frieda, N. Dak., William and Ben, who are at home; Mrs. Jos. Netz of Pierz; Mrs. Joe Bollig, at home; Mrs. John Gast, of Pierz and Rose, who is at home. Besides the children he is survived by 1 brother, Nick, of Ramey, and 1 sister, Mrs. Kathryn Wagner, of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church, of Pierz at 9 o'clock A.M., February 26.
