James Earl McIndoo, 77 of Nampa, died Wednesday, October 20, 1999, at a Nampa care center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 25, 1999, at the First United Methodist Church of Nampa. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m., today. October 24, 1999, at Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
James was born on August 2, 1922, at Esbon, Kansas to Lemuel Earl and Lela Hazel Waite McIndoo. He later moved with his family to Bostwick, Nebraska where they farmed until the Dust Bowl forced them to move. They moved to Idaho in August of 1936. James graduated from Nampa High School in 1940. He attended Business school for one year in Nampa before joining the Navy. He served as Yeoman First Class during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he became a master craftsman. He worked many years as a Union carpenter. On June 19, 1953, he married Viola Fothergill in Nampa. Their marriage was blessed with a son and a daughter.
James enjoyed gardening, woodworking, photography, camping, and was a self-taught pianist. He also loved to travel. James and Viola traveled extensively throughout Europe in his later years. He also enjoyed traveling the United States and has photographs of all fifty state capitals.
James was the type of person who would be there if you needed him to do anything. He was known for his sense of humor, and was known around the community as "Barely". When asked how he was doing he would reply "Barely".
He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Nampa. He volunteered on numerous occasions for the church. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local 635 and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Homes. He also volunteered his time playing piano at several of the care centers in the area and volunteered with the building of Centennial Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife, Viola; a son, Keith and Gail of Boise; a daughter, Kris and Russ Clements of Nampa; a brother, Dean and Joe Ann McIndoo of Nampa; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don E. McIndoo.
