Franceschetti underwent studies in Rome between 1959 and 1964, and served along the years as parochial vicar of the parish church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Brescia, chaplain of the Visitation Nuns of Brescia, vice-assistant of the ACLI Provinciali, chaplain of the Clinic Città di Brescia, director of the diocesan offices of the statistics and religious sociology, lecturer within the Diocesan Seminary and director of the Pastoral Diocesan Office.
Aged 62, Franceschetti was named Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Fermo, following the retirement of Msgr. Cleto Bellucci, receiving his episcopal consecration on August 31, 1997, from Archbishop Bruno Foresti, assisted by the named Archbishop Bellucci and by Bishop Vigilio Mario Olmi.
The Archbishop passed unexpectedly away at the age of 69, on February 4, 2005 and lies interred inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Fermo.
