Jessie Lillian Duncan Wheatley, 91, of Seaford, died Monday, Oct. 23, 1995, of congestive heart failure in Seaford Retirement and Rehabilitation Center, Seaford.

She was born in Green [sic] County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Tane [sic] Duncan.

Mrs. Wheatley was a homemaker. Her husband, George Robert Wheatley, died in 1966 [sic; correct year was 1958].

Survivors include a brother, Woodrow Duncan of Greenville [sic], Tenn.; and three sisters, Florence L. Massey and Pearl Horne, both of Seaford, and Elizabeth Seaton of Greenville [sic], Tenn.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Reliance Md.

FYI: Jessie's name and birth year are inscribed on tombstones in two different cemeteries, the earliest stone, from the 1930s, being with her second husband Willard Saulsbury Knowles in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford. (See Jessie and Willard's Find A Grave memorials in that cemetery.) Jessie is, however, buried in Cokesbury Cemetery with third husband George Robert Wheatley, with whom she shares a tombstone. (See George's Find A Grave memorial in this cemetery.)

Jessie was married to a Mr. Pat Stanley (native of Virginia, born 1903, wed 5 December 1925 in Tennessee, died, age 27, on 10 August 1931, in TN, homicide, the result of a gunshot to the chest [see Pat's Find A Grave memorial at link]), prior to her wedding Willard Knowles in DE in 1933.
