Keith W. Alderman, longtime Tuolumne County resident and businessman, died July 5 at his home on Big Hill. His wife and children were at his bedside. He was 84.
Mr. Alderman was born in Yuba City to Roger Lee Alderman Sr. and Ethel (Oldham) Alderman, of Wheatland, Yuba County. His childhood was spent in Wheatland, Ark., and the Bay Area, after returning to California. The family settled in Tuolumne County in 1930, where Mr. Alderman has lived since, except for a tour in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He served as a lieutenant and fighter pilot after attaining his commission at the age of 20, and was awarded as first in his class of 400 men. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to the mountains and started Alderman Logging Company, now known as Alderman Timber Company, which he ran for over 60 years. He was still administering the business in conjunction with his son, Roger, until his death.
Mr. Alder is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda; children, Laura Lee Djakovich, Keith W. Alderman Jr., Janet Lynn Alderman, Mona Jean Alderman, Shelly Dawn Alderman and Roger Lee Alderman; sister, Victoria Ethel Harris, of Sonora; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Lee Alderman Sr.; mother, Ethel Alderman Grimm; and brother, Roger Lee Alderman.
A celebration of his life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tuolumne Memorial Hall in Tuolumne. A private graveside service will be held at Dambacher Mountain Memorial in Sonora.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Association or Hospice, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.
