Ira was the 7th of 9 children born to James Nagel Hubbs and Mary Blatchley Hubbs. He married Frances (Fanny) Rolph on 18 Jan 1800 at Commack Methodist Church in Commack New York. They had 12 children: Daniel, Alexander, Platt, James Alfred, Uriah, Cornelia, Ira Clark, Coles, Francis Jane, Sarah Ann, Rebecca and George Hubbs. He was a butcher by trade and lived on Jericho Tnpk., in the 1840s and 1850s. His sons and grandsons went on to be butchers on Long Island well into the 1900s.
