Anita M. Kuester, 93, a resident of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home and formerly of Howards Grove passed away on July 7th, 2008.
She was born to Otto and Flora Wiegand of Cleveland on April 26, 1915.
Anita graduated from Sheboygan Central High. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 1937 with a degree in education and started her career which she truly loved. After 35 years of teaching she was known to many as "The Kindergarten Teacher". She was proud to say she was the first kindergarten teacher in the Howards Grove School System and instrumental in developing the program.
On October 12, 1940 Anita married Willard Kuester. They enjoyed many fishing trips throughout the United States, Alaska, and Canada. Willard preceded her in death on June 4, 1987. Anita lived in their Howards Grove home until 2001, Pine Haven until 2007 and then moved to Sunny Ridge Nursing Home. Through it all she dealt with her failing eyesight (Macular Degeneration) with courage and determination for the past 22 years.
She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Howards Grove. She taught Sunday school for many years, and the Senior Servants of the congregation. Active throughout her life, Anita continued to bowl well into her 80's. She was active in the Sheboygan County Historical Society, Lutheran Singles, Howards Grove Lions Club, Retired Teachers Association, Insight Group, and attended the Howards Grove Senior Center. She also had many good times with the "Cook Cheese Gang". Her friends knew her as a gentle and kind person.
She is survived by two daughters Judith (Charles) Wendt of Fort Worth, TX. and Susan (Jeffrey) Sixel of Howards Grove. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Timothy (Erika) Wendt, Gregory (Tiffany) Wendt, Patricia (Daniel) Becker, Stefanie (Justin) Trakel and Jennifer Sixel(Fiancé Jon Arentsen). She has eight great-grandchildren. Anita is further survived by her brother, Louis (Mildred) Wiegand of Cleveland, and her sisters, Helen Hahn of Sheboygan, and Jeanette Karsteadt of Ontario, California.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anita was preceded in death by her sisters Marie Pofahl, Caroline McAninch and brother Carl Wiegand.
