One of the founders of the Magnolia Flouring Mill which was established in Albany in 1851. The other partners in this industry were J. Driggs, Samuel Hill and Walter and Thomas Monteith. This mill which remained standing until comparatively recent years was situated at the west end of First Street on the banks of the Calapooia River. Its power was first drawn from the waters of the Calapooia River, later from the Santiam Canal.
