Clinton MO - William Neuhaus died in Springfield, Mo., Monday afternoon, March 27. He had suffered a stroke a year ago from which he had never recovered entirely and the last month had been a semi-invalid. William Neuhaus, former Clintonian, was born in Nashville, Ill., 84 years ago, where he was reared and educated and where some 50 years ago he was married to Miss Etta Riead. About 1892 he and his wife came to Clinton to make their home, his father-in-law having come here before him and established a blacksmith shop. Mr. Neuhaus also learned the blacksmithing trade and expert in his work, a man of jovial, genial nature, broad and muscular, tipping the scales at well over 200 pounds in his prime, he was a figure in the community life. He was a member of the First M. E. Church and of the Modern Woodman Lodge, with which he remained affiliated until his death. He was a fine man, kind and good to his family and considerate of neighbors and friends who shared kindly thoughts of him. He had but one daughter, Bertha, now Mrs. George Graham, who with his wife, survives him. There is one grandchild, Betty Jean Graham. He was the last member of his immediate family. In 1922, Mr. and Mrs. Neuhaus moved to Rest-a-While north of Clinton, where he enjoyed farming and built an attractive home, with adjoining filling station and cabin units. In 1930 they moved to Springfield to give the granddaughter better educational advantages. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon from the home. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Riead (Mr. Riead is a brother of Mrs. Neuhaus) and their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Riead, went to Springfield for the service.
