Rev. Homer R. Herrin , 81, retired United Methodist minister of Olney, passed away last night at Richland Memorial Hospital following a long period of ill health. Rev. Herrin was a native of Richland County and the son of Jacob Herrin and Lizzie Fritschle Herrin. he married Florence Heckler on September 2, 1925. He was a veteran of World War I and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Richland Barracks of World War I veterans. Rev Herrin was a member of the Southern Conference of United Methodist Church and since retirement has attended the First United Methodist Church in Olney. His service to his church covered a period from 1928 to 1960. He held pastorates at Friendsville, West Liberty, Dieterich, Flat Rock, St. Francisville, Cisne, Bridgeport, Carrier Mills and at Ashley. He leaves his wife, Florence and to well-known sons who are associated with the game of basketball for years. Richard (Rich) Herrin, Coach of Benton basketball team and Ronald Herrin, Coach of the Olney Tigers basketball team. He also leaves a brother, Ernest Herrin of Olney. Interment in Maple Dale Cemetery.
