George Brownlow Baker ,80, 282 McKinney Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Baker was a native of Skeet Rock, Va., and the son of the late John and Eva Harris Baker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Baker was a mechanic and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lyons Baker, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Freddy Baker, of the home, George Wayne and Karen Baker, Roan Mountain; eight daughters and five sons-in-laws, Star Baker and Rosie and Richard Lindecamp, all of Newland, N.C., Barbara Clark, Elk Park, N.C., Diana and Allen Buckles and Patricia and Robert Gobble, all of Elizabethton, Linda Cole, Lillie and Robert Stout and Donna and Jr. Chambers, all of Roan Mountain; and a sister, Lorene Wright, Hickory, N.C. Twenty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a multitude of friends, and his dog "Jitter Bug" also survive.

Funeral servives for Mr. Baker will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. John Vance and the Rev. Matthew Guy officiating. Music will be by Mrs. Charlotte Smith, organist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, May 10, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery wit Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166.
