Mrs. Schertz was born in Pilot Point in 1917 and had lived in Pilot Point, Dallas, Denton, and Sanger. She joined the Baptist church in 1926 and was a current member of the First Baptist Church in Denton. She attended business college in Dallas and Texas Woman's University and was employed by Moore Business Forms for 35 years, retiring in 1983. While at Moore's she held various positions, including senior executive secretary and administrative assistant to the vice-president. She was a member of the Denton Chapter of Professional Secretaries International where she served as past president. She was also a charter member and served twice as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Phil Miller Post #2205.
She is survived by her husband, Walter William "Buck" Schertz of Sanger; two sisters, Betty Prock of Pilot Point and Joan Jackson of Dallas; her daugher, Jan Rives Campbell of Burke, Va; three granddaughters, Cala Pence of McKinney, Kelly Sardello of Blacksburg, VA, and Krista Butterworth of Colorado Springs, Colo, and seven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Schertz requested that contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Village.
