Dr. Richard Allen "Dick" McNeil, Ponca City resident, died Thursday, July 29, 2006 at his home. He was 77.

A memorial service will be held at 10am on Monday, July 3, 2006 in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Larry Nigh, pastor, Northeast Baptist Church, officiating.

Richard Allen McNeil was born July 26, 1928 in Tonkawa, the son of Lloyd D., Sr. and Gladys Allen McNeil. He attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sgt. On April 3, 1952, while stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Lee Wilson. The couple had four daughters: Linda Carol, Jenny Sue, Laurie Allyn, and Janice Lee. During his Air Force career, he was stationed at Tacoma, WA; Wichita, KS and San Angelo, TX. While stationed in Germany, he competed in the European Air Force track meet in England, placing first in the triple jump, which won him a trip to Albuquerque to the World Wide Air Force track meet. He placed second in two other events; the high jump and the broad jump. He was also given the honor of being selected to guard then President D. Eisenhower during the President's visit to McConnoll Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan. where Dr. McNeil was stationed at the time.

After he got out of the service, he came back to Oklahoma and got a Bachelor's degree in Business Education at Oklahoma City University. He worked at OG&E in Oklahoma City and El Reno. He also had vast experience in sales and won many sales awards and prizes. He got his teaching certification at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, and in 1969 he moved to Ponca City where he was the Distributive Education (D.E.) instructor at Ponca City High School for several years. He earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees, also at OSU.

He was Dean of Co-operative Education at Claremore Junior College and Head of the Business Education Dept. at Okmulgee Tech. He and his wife divorced in 1979 and he never remarried. At the time of his retirement in 1994, Dr. McNeil was the President of Draughon College in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Lawton. He enjoyed traveling, golf and bowling tournaments. During his years at OG&E, he competed in golf and bowling tournaments, winning trophies in both. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his relatives and many friends.

Surviving him are a sister-in-law, Phyllis McNeil of Mesa, AZ; three daughters, Linda Copeland; son-in-law, Paul Copeland; Jenny and husband Danny Holmes and Laurie and husband Jay Graham, all of Ponca City; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Holmes of Lakewood, CO; Michael Holmes and Heather Morris of Moscow Mills, MO; Peachie Copeland, Jacey Graham and Micah Graham, all of Ponca City; four nieces and eight nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lloyd D. McNeil, Jr. and Jasper McNeil; one sister, Maxine Brown, one daughter, Janice Adams, one niece and two nephews.
