His father, James1 Hopkins, came to America from Ireland in 1730 with 3 brothers and settled in Londonderry, NH, where he married Mary (Unknown). James1 Hopkins and Mary (Unknown) had 3 sons:

1. John2 H. Hopkins born July 18, 1747 Londonderry, NH.

2. James2 H. Hopkins born May 31, 1749 died Oct. 22, 1831

3. Robert2 Hopkins born Nov. 1, 1750

1. John2 H. Hopkins, a Revolutionary War soldier, "...was at the Battle of Bunker Hill, and got run out of ammunition and then threw stones like Hieton at the enemy."

2. James2 H. Hopkins, also a Revolutionary War soldier (Lieutenant), was in charge of a detachment stationed at Peekskill, NY. He married Mary Ann McGregor, whose Scotch-Irish ancestors were Prebyterians from the north of Ireland, near the Scotch border.
They had 6 children:

1. Thomas3 N. Hopkins born 1776 Londonderry, NH m. Sarah "Sally" Howe.

2. Mary3 Hopkins born 1778 Londonderry, NH m. Robert Larkin of Londonderry.

3. David3 McGregor Hopkins born 1780, believed to have died unmarried.

4. James3 Hopkins born 1782 Manchester, VT.

5. Margaret3 Hopkins born 1784 Londonderry, VT m. John Adams Larkin 1783 NH - 1868 Dansville, NY and died childless at Dansville.

6. Robert3 Hopkins born 1781 Londonderry, VT m. Submit Howe.
