His parents were living in Steuben County, New York, just before they died. I haven't yet found where they are buried, but Silas has a brother, John R. Hemphill, who is buried in the Hartsville Cemetery in Steuben County, New York, and he has another brother, who moved from New York to Wisconsin and died there. His name was William Hemphill, and he is buried in the Albion Prairie Cemetery in Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
Silas was living in Denver, Arapahoe County, Colorado, in 1900. He is listed as single, but he has a lady by the name of Helen Sinton, age 48, living with him as a border, and she has a son named Silas H. P. Sinton, age 11.
