James Rockwell Griffin was the son of Delonson Griffin and Ruth Wiltse Griffin. He was born in Walworth Co. WI.

"ROCK" GRIFFIN ANSWERS SUDDEN CALL OF DEATH
Pardeeville suffered the loss of one of its oldest residents and most unique characters in the death of "Rock" GRIFFIN early Tuesday morning. Only a few days before his death he was downtown as usual. Mr. Griffin was a native of Wisconsin being born in the territory of Wisconsin when it was inhabited by more Indians than white people. His parents moved to Wisconsin in 1835. James Rockwell GRIFFIN was born in Walworth Co. April 4, 1838 and died in Pardeeville January 24, 1922 aged 88 yrs. With his parents when a boy of six years he moved with from Walworth Co. to Green Lake Co. where he grew to manhood. In 1869 he purchased a farm about two miles north of Pardeeville where he resided for thirty years and on which one of his sons Cyrus still resides. Since 1899 he has been a resident of this villiage.
On Christmas Day 1860, Mr. Griffin married Miss Jane Semple, who survives him. The lengh of there married life is an unusual record. Eleven years ago they they celabrated there Golden wedding anniversary and this last Christmas they were recipiants of many greetings in honer of there 61st anniversary. To them were born seven children of whom six are living. Hattie died at age two years. The living are, George of Rapid City SD., Cyrus of Pardeeville. Arley now Mrs. Geo. Whittingham of Cambria, Carroll Aldrich of Auburndale, Herbert of Kilbourn and Warren of Whitewater. There are also seven grandchildren and five great grand children.
For most of his life Mr. Griffin was indifferent to religios matters and at times seemingly hostle but at 70 yrs of age he was converted and for the rest his life was an active member and an official of the Episcopal chuch. In the church community where he was a familier figure he will be greatly missed. The funeral was held Thursday from the M.E. Church Rev. Starkweather in charge. Interment took place in Pardeeville.
