Charles W. Palmer, 80, of Westtown, an educator and biologist who was active in Friends affairs, died today at the Cotter Home, of West Chester.
Mr. Palmer, who lived most of his life in the Westtown-Media area, taught at Westtown School for 15 years and was a teacher and counselor at Northeast High School, Philadelphia, for 22 years. He was superintendent a the Friends Boarding School, Barnesville, Ohio, from 1944 to 1947.
A member of the American Museum of Natural History, he did biological collecting for that and other museums as well as for research departments at various universities.
Since his wife, the former Anna Stanton, died in 1956, Mr. Palmer spent part of each year with the Friends at Monteverde, (sic) Costa Rica.
He was a birthright member and recorded minister of the Society of Friends. He was a member of Middletown Meeting, Delaware County.
Mr. Palmer was born in Media, the son of Lewis and Mary Wildman Palmer.
He was a graduate of Westtown School and of Cornell University, and held a master of science degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Surviving are two daughters, Eva, wife of Charles B. Stanton, of Westtown, and Mary Anna, wife of William Balderston, of Whitford; a sister, Edith T. Griscom, of Germantown, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Middletown Friends Meeting on 4th day, 3rd month 20th, 2 p.m. Interment in adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Monteverde Friends Meeting. At the request of the family there will be no viewing. (Ralph W. Ralston Funeral Home.)
