Henry Dodge Hall was a son born to Martha (Wright) Hall and Reason Bowie Hall in Bureau County, Illinois in 1833, although he stated he was born in Wisconsin, a state where His parents have no record of living in. Henry, Eliza, Lavina, Lark (Laurence), Edward Cabot, the twins Reuben Payne and William Russell, Andrew Jackson and Benjamin Franklin Hall were all of his brothers and sisters who either came with he and his parents over the Oregon Trail (including the infamous Meek Cut Off) or were born after the parents arrived in the Oregon Territory. Either way, it was an exciting yet dangerous time to be alive. Oregon was a wild and untamed land as was the trail leading to it. The risks were high as was the mortality rate but the West was the last great "Land of Opportunity", so many chose to take those risks; Henry's father made the most of his opportunities in the upper Willamette Valley, creating the town of Buena Vista, building two different ferries that crossed different sections of the Willamette River. The Buena Vista ferry is still in operation to this day. For whatever reason, Henry did not live the longest of lives, dying at the age of about 46 years old. I don't know what happened to him or to his headstone. His headstone leans to one side to this day, with just his initials & last name on the reverse side. He is one of 77 Halls buried at Buena Vista Cemetery, in Buena Vista, Oregon. May they all Rest In Peace.
Thank you to Wilma Handley who pointed me in the correct direction, helping to realize that this was not the grave of a deceased wife, but a son of Reason and Martha Hall.
