She was born in Hollentown, daughter of the late George Russell and Genevieve Russell-Palmer. Her father passed away when she was 7, and she was raised by her late stepfather, Edward Palmer. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Lawson.
She was a resident of Altoona for most of her life, serving on the school board and helping to start the CAP Program in Altoona.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Green St. Baptist Chapel, Edwardsville.
Surviving are five children: Tina Thompson of Shickshinny, Debra Franks of Slocum Township, Joyce Tew of Philadelphia, Charles Walker Jr. of Oxford, Mich., and Trudy Cooper of Danville; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Buchanan and Virginia Palmer Calderwood, both of Altoona; and a brother, David Palmer of Altoona.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Karl E. Blight Funeral Home, 392 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, Pa., with the Revs. James Quinn and David Miklas officiating. Interment will be at Hanover Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
