Funeral services for Joseph William Herbert, 78, were held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Glines Ward Chapel with Bishop Woodrow White conducting. Mr. Herbert died Wednesday, April 8 in Vernal.
Prayer at the mortuary was by Harvey McKee and the prelude and postlude music was played by Melba Tullis. Opening song was "Whispering Hope" ssung by a Glines quartet, consisting of Helen McKeachnie, Belle Perry, Lela Baty and Doris Miller, accompanied by Melba Tullis.
Opening prayer was offered by Johnnie Cook and speakers were Harmon S. Sowards and Phil Watkins. Solo, Janet Nelson, "I Walked With God," the quartet, "Old Rugged Cross," and benediction, Garth Batty.
Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery with dedication of the grave by Bishop Lynn N. Murdock. Pallbearers were William Slaugh, He. Merkley, Harold McKee, Niles Haslem, Austin White and Stan Robins.
Mr. Herbert was born May 18, 1880 in Mill Creek, Salt Lake County, a son of Thomas and Ann Wardell Herbert. He married Mary Agnes Cook January 1, 1904 in Vernal. She died February 3, 1927. Their marriage had been solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He married Florence Moon Van Tassell in 1931 at Hayden, Colorado. She died January 6, 1948. He married May Wheeler Rasmussen June 21, 1948 at Heber,
He was employed as a construction worker and farmer throughout most of his life.
Survivors include his widow, two sons and five daughters, Mrs. James (Freda) Redding, Thomas, Mrs. Ben (Vera) Luck, Mrs. William (Belva) Winward, all of Vernal; Mrs. McCoy (Afton) Luck, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Dalley (Bernice) Van Tassell, Salt Lake City; Earl, Portland, Oregon; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Southam, Vernal and Mrs. Josephine Foster, Parks City, Utah.
Out of town visitors included the Johnnie Cooks, Jack Cooks, Wayne Cooks, all of Roosevelt; Earl Herbert, Oregon; the McCoy Lucks, Dally Van Tassels, William Cooks, Darrell Cooks, Charlie Lewis', Frank Lewis', all of Salt Lake City; George Cooks, Price; Clinton Rasmussens, Ellen Lindsey, Duchesne, Sarah Owens, Mrs. Von Roper, Ogden; Doris Rogers, Roy; Mrs. Josephine Foster and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Walker and children of Park City, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Peterson and daughter of Meeker.

He married Mary Agnes Cook January 1, 1904 in Vernal, Utah. She died in 1927.
