He was born Dec. 5, 1893, in Richland, the son of William and Fenke Harms Renken.
He farmed in Auburn Township for 35 years, retiring in 1956.
Mr. Renken was a member of Auburn Trinity Lutheran Church; a Sunday school teacher at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chatham for 23 years; charter member and past board member of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau; former member and past president of the Auburn Board of Education.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Stuckemeyer Renken, in 1969; three sisters, Anna Renken, Dora Helmerichs and Helena Boesdorfer; three brothers, George, Louie and Edwin; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Dorothy) Singley of Normal, Mrs. Melvin (Verna) Hallstein of Minier and Mrs. James (Irma) Speaks of Springfield; three sons, Leonard William of Litchfield, Carl Edward of Auburn and John Herman of Athens; one sister, Marie Cordes of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Auburn Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Richard Harre officiating.
Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
