Helen Sherryl Swain Hassard, our beloved wife, mom, sister, grandma, great-grandma and friend, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2008 at the American Fork Hospital due to complications from a Pulmonary Embolism. She was surrounded by her loving family. Helen Sherryl is best known by her friends and family as "Sher" or " Sher Bear."
Sher was born May 29, 1941 in Vernal, Utah. While attending Utah State University, she met Myron L. Hassard. After a wonderful romance, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1962. She later completed her education, earning a BS in Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education. Sher and Myron raised their children in the Cottonwood Heights area of Salt Lake City, Utah. Later they moved to Cedar Hills, Utah where they lived for the last 22 years. Sher and Myron have five children: Sherlyn (Chris) Tambasco, Jason (Mialah) Hassard, Mindy Hassard, Rebekah (Alex) Pepenella, and Rachel Covington. She has 14 "Grandies" and one great-grand baby. She was preceded in death by her parents Bertrand and Fern Gerber Swain and her brother Lyle Swain. Sher had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served two LDS Employment Missions and a full-time mission with her husband in Worcester, MA. She has lived a life of service and never turned anyone away from her doors that needed assistance or aid. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Sher lived life with a passion. She always enjoyed being the life of the party, and she loved telling stories with great animation. She showed great kindness and loved everyone she met. Through Sher's eyes, life was vibrant, and she approached challenges with great courage.
Sher is survived by her husband, children and siblings, Bertella Aldridge, Varn Swain, Clark Swain and Keith Swain.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Hills 3rd Ward Chapel, 3950 West Cedar Hills Drive. Viewings will be held on Thurs. evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and on Fri. at the Church from 9:15-10:45 a.m. prior to the Services.
Interment: American Fork City Cemetery.
