Richard Kennon Williams, 80, of Kilmarnock, Va., died May 22, 2004. He was born on December 8, 1923 to Hattie Lifsey Williams and Carter Nelson Williams Jr. in Richmond, Va. Dr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nancy and Page; a brother, Carter; and a brother, Charles; and his daughter, Anna Williams Allison, who was in the first plane that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Williams of Charlottesville; his son, Richard Kennon Williams Jr. of Charlottesville; and a granddaughter, Claire Hannah Skinner; also a brother, Thomas N. Williams of Richmond; and a sister, Harriett Rand of Vero Beach, Fla. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Marla Ichnoski of Midlothian, Va.; and stepgrandsons, Logan and John Ichnoski. Dr. Williams graduated from University of Richmond in two and a half years at the age of 19 and Medical College of Va., graduating from medical school at the age of 21. He served in the U.S. Navy as Lt. jg in the Medical Corps at the Norfolk Naval Hospital, Bethesda Naval Medical Center and American Samoa. Dr. Williams practiced ophthalmology in partnership with Dr. DuPont Guerry III at the Monument Avenue Eye Center in Richmond for 38 years. At Dr. Guerry's retirement, Dr. Williams opened a solo practice on Glen Forest Dr. in Richmond for five years. He loved medicine and enjoyed his patients. Consistent with his caring and buoyant personality, he began a new medical practice in Kilmarnock at the age of 69. He enjoyed nature, the Chesapeake Bay and all things coastal. The slow pace, relaxed manner and people of the Northern Neck were a joy to him. He was a member and former president of the Northern Neck Medical Society, member of the Medical Society of Va., Fellow of American College of Surgeons, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Richmond Antiquarian Society, Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Commonwealth Club, Rotary Club, International, Country Club of Virginia, James River Catfish Club and SAR, Kilmarnock Chapter. Dr. Williams became a volunteer physician for the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, seeing referred patients for several years. Memorials may be made in his name to Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, P.O. Box 1684, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482. Family will receive friends at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. on Friday, May 28, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
