Fred P. Wolff, President of the Board of Trustees of the Washington State Normal School, a prominent clothing merchant here for a score of years and one of the pioneers of the city, died at the Ellensburg General Hospital last evening of Septicemia, a general blood poisoning. Mr. Wolff, who has been in poor health for a number of years suffered an attack of tonsillitis just before Christmas and was taken seriously ill with pneumonia between Christmas and New Years. His condition has been serious since that time, septicemia following the attack of pneumonia.
For the past quarter of a century few men have been more active in the development of this community than Mr. Wolff. He was for a time a member of the city council, he has been a trustee of the State Normal school for ten years and president of the board for the last few years. He served as commander of the Local Commadry of the Knights Templar, and as master of Ellensburg Lodge No. 39 of Masons. He was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason and also a member of the Shrine.
During the past eight years he suffered greatly from facial nerve trouble and underwent several operations, the most recent being in Boston last November. That operation was highly successful and with Mrs. Wolff he returned home just before the holidays relieved from the suffering which had tortured him for years. He was extremely cheerful and optimistic.
Mr. Wolff came to the Kittitas Valley in the winter of 1888 and 1889 and for a number of years worked as a clerk in local stores prior to going into business for himself 20 years ago. On August 30, 1889, he and Miss Damman were married here. His wife and daughter, Wanda, as well as two brothers and three sisters residing in Michigan, and one brother residing in Louisiana, survive him. He was 54 years old last November his birthplace being the state of Michigan.
The funeral will be held from the Presbyterian church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The service at the church will be in charge of the local lodge of Knights Templar. The services at the grave will be in charge of the Masonic Lodge.
The sadness of Mr. Wolff's death is heightened by the death of Mrs. Wolff's mother last Tuesday, her funeral taking place Thursday, the day prior to Mr. Wolff's death.
