On April 4, 1941 he married Sylvia Jones at Kansas City, Missouri.
He attended Sweeney Aviation School in Kansas City, Missouri. He & Sylvia welcomed the birth of their daughter Janet in 1942 while in Kansas City. After graduation, he took a job with Mid-Continent Airlines. He was a maintenance mechanic foreman and the company moved him to Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1950, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Patricia. When Braniff took over Mid-Continent's operations, they made their headquarters at Dallas, Texas. Othel decided it was time to leave the company and moved his family back to Kansas in 1954.
After his return home, he went to work for Vicker's Oil Company in Joplin, Missouri. Soon he bought a farm 3 miles east of Weir. He worked nights at Vicker's then came home and farmed during the day. He also helped his father at times with the farming, and did farm for others on a rental basis.
Othel retired from farming in 1975 due to failing health.
He was found dead in his home. Cause of death was due to a heart attack brought on by an emphysema attack.
He is buried with Sylvia and his parents in Crocker Cemetery, Cherokee County, Kansas.
Survivors include daughters Mrs Janet (Ron) Tarter, Mrs Patricia (Bruce) LaCroix; his mother Mrs Elsie Blair; one sister, Mrs Thadene (Don) Walker, 3 grandsons and a granddaughter.
