"William B. Nunley (of the Union Army) died 15 Dec. 1889, and is buried in the Jesse Nunley Cemetery in Nunley Cove (listed on Find A Grave as Nunley Cemetery, Northcutts Cove, TN). He died at Calvin Hobbs' house. (Calvin was the husband of William B.'s daughter, Elizabeth "Betty".) Calvin carried the coffin from town, washed and dressed the body. The cemetery is about 200 feet from where old William Nunley's (1774) log cabin was. Old William (1774) was the adopted father of Willis' first wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Nunley (1831).

1st Tennessee & Alabama Independent Vidette Cavalry
Company E. William B. and Willis, his adopted son, fought for the Union while Joseph and John, other sons, fought for the Confederacy. William B. was described as 5'7" with black hair and eyes and dark complexion.

William B. Nunley married Sarah Jane Smartt (1805-6/3/1866) in about 1824 in Warren Co., TN. Their children were Willis (an adopted left behind Cherokee child), Cynthia, Elizabeth (Betty), Sarah Jane, Nancy, Rachel, William C. ((BillTug), Mary, Joseph, John and Frances (Frankie) Nunley. William B. was the son of Thomas and probably a Cherokee Indian girl. He raised his family in Nunley Cove (now known as Northcutts Cove), TN. His wife, Sarah Jane, is most likely buried in the same cemetery. The stones have eroded through the years. (S. McDonald)

After Sarah Jane died, William B. married Margaret Qualls Orrick in 1867. They were married for 22 years. They had a daughter, Fannie, according to Roger Arrick. Margaret was first married to John Orrick (Arrick). When he was shot at Corinth and died at Shiloh, she didn't know how to spell the name. (He is probably buried in a quickly created grave, location unknown.) Since they pronounced it "Ark", it ended up getting spelled as Arrick. Some of her daughters have Ark and Arick (with 1 r) on their marriage docs. We do not know where she is buried. (gggrandson, Roger Arrick 2011 and 2014. Roger has affidavits from Margaret's pension drawn on William B.'s Union service time.)

This William B. Nunley's grandson, also named William B. Nunley,is buried in Coryell Baptist Cemetery in Texas, along with his wife, Minerva Isabel Whitlock Nunley.
