MADILL -- Services for Ollie Marie Jennings, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at First United Methodist Church with Bob Moody officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Born on May 17,1921, in Oak Grove, Okla., to Orin John and Annie Aldridge Arms, she died on March 6, 2005, in Madill. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R.A. Jennings; three brothers, Carl, Hobart and Homer Arms; and sister, Clara Stephens.

She graduated from high school at Hickory, Okla., where she played basketball. She attended college at Murray State and East Central State College, where she was a cheerleader and majored in home economics. After she left college, she became a lab technician and worked for the veteran's hospitals in Sulphur and Duncan.

She met R.A. "Dick" Jennings at a skating rink in Sulphur, where he literally swept her off her feet, and they were married at the First Methodist Church of Duncan by G. Lemuel Fenn on April 4, 1942. They were sent to Dyersburg, Tenn., Air Force base, where Ollie worked at the base hospital until the birth of their son, Richard Michael Jennings. After Dick's discharge from the Army Air Corps, they decided to return to Murray County, where Dick had an offer to join his uncle in the title business, Sulphur Abstract and Title Co. They bought the business from Eli Hoffman in 1950 and began their immersion in the title business. Their daughter, Carolyn Sue, was born in 1950. Ollie found her vocation in that business and was never happier when she would see those abstracts making steady progress through the office.

They enjoyed water sports and soon bought a boat and motor and began water skiing (with home-made skies) on Veterans Lake. The family spent many summer weekends at Veterans Lake, Lake Murray, Lake Texoma and the Lake of the Arbuckles. Ollie was very involved in her children's activities, sports for Dick and music for Sue, and thought nothing of traveling all over the state to give us extra opportunities to excel in our areas. They sold the business and retired in 1984 and began to enjoy their grandchildren, Chris, Jonathan, Wade and J.T. After R.A.'s death in 1996, she began thinking of moving closer to her children and grandchildren, decided to sell her property in Sulphur and move to Madill, and in 1999, did so.

After being diagnosed with COPD, her health began to deteriorate very slowly, finally culminating in her death. She was able to remain in her home until the very end.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Richard Michael Jennings and Carolyn Sue Jennings Beard; four grandsons, Christopher Michael Jennings and his wife, Tara, their son, Drew, and one grandchild on the way, Jonathan Bryan Jennings and his wife, Tamra, their son, Zachary, and daughter, Sarah, Wade Jennings Beard, John Thomas Beard; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and-great nephews, who looked at her as a surrogate mother.

She always found time for her family and was never happier than when surrounded by them. She found her church home with St. Pauls Methodist Church in Sulphur, and later at First Methodist Church, also of Sulphur, and after her move to Madill, the First United Methodist Church of Madill. She always said she felt like she came home when she walked in the door of the Methodist Church and was a faithful member of the choir and United Methodist Women. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She and R.A. served as president of the Parent's Association at Oklahoma City University. She supported the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

She is at rest in the Lord, having passed from this life on Sunday, March 6, 2005. She was one of a kind, and her like will never pass this way again. She and R.A. were reunited with all their friends and loved ones. Praise the Lord. The family would like to express their appreciation to Royal Crest Hospice, Dr. Shannon Goodwin, Mother's caregivers, Janet Baudendistel, Patsy Gilliam, Freida Chastain, Rowina LaBron, Josie Espinosa, Rosa Espinosa, Mary Wheeler and Peggy Stowe for their loving care and unselfishness. She loved them all, even though she couldn't remember their names.

Casket bearers are Chris Jennings, Wade Beard, J.T. Beard, Jonathan Jennings, David Mayes, Allen Arms, Carl Stephens, and Steve McGarry. Honorary bearers are Hubert Cops, John Anderson, Patrick McGarry, Mark McGarry, Aaron McGarry, Justin McGarry and Arnie Motta.

Memorials can be sent to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
