Rev. Flute was licensed by the Dakota Presbytery in 1887 and ordained and installed pastor of Mountainhead Church in 1888. He was born near St. Peter, MN in August 1851, the son of Cotankainape (Chief Flute Player) and Siyowahdewin. He joined the Presbyterian church at Santee Agency in Jan. 1871 and received his education principally at the Santee Normal Training School.
Rev. Flute also served at Kangipaha Presbyterian Church at Fort Totten ND and Flandreau First Presbyterian.
He was also known by the name Wahinsha.
