Carlene was the twin sister of Sharlene who also perished in the bus crash that killed them, a teacher and 26 other members of the Yuba City High School choir. They were buried next to each other on May 24, 1976. Carlene died instantly. Her mother was a piano teacher and taught her to play. She was active in the Morman Church. She had wanted to go into nursing.
