Joseph Dixon was a veteran of the 27th Maine Infantry. This was the unit that was awarded the Medal of Honor just for extending thier enlistment, and the whole 27th was awarded the medal, even though the majority did not extend. The story is told in the book 'A Shower Of Stars' by John Pullen.
John was from Elliot, Me. He enlisted on 9/30/1862 as a private. He mustered out on 7/17/1863 at Portland, Me.
