Joseph J. Licate, 81, of Carlisle, died peacefully in Hospice at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon, PA on Thursday, July 17, 2008.
Born on May 6, 1927 in Ashtabula, OH, Joe was the son of the late Louis and Mary Licate.
He was the youngest of seven children and had graduated from Ashtabula High School.
Joe retired as a SFC from the U.S. Army in March 1971 after more than 22 years of service in the Military Police. He was a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Joe then worked at Carlisle Barracks for the U.S. Civil Service Commission, retiring from the Motor Pool in 1993. He then was employed part time at the Oakwood Center, Mechanicsburg, PA until January 2003.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy J. Licate.
Joe is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet Staiger Licate; a son, Michael A. Licate, Sr. of Carlisle; a sister, Margaret Brown of Ashtabula, OH; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2008 from the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle, PA, with the Rev. Andre J. Meluskey officiating. Burial with military honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard, will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 799 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg.
