GLEN FORK - Hiram M. Acord, 74, of Glen Fork, died Friday, May 3, 2002 in a Charleston hospital following a long illness.

Born August 10, 1927, at Clear Fork, he was the son of the late Valentine Witcher Acord (1899-1964) and Margie Wright-Acord (1908-1996).

Mr. Acord was an electrician at Eastern Associated Coal Corporation's Kopperston mine with 35 years of service. He was a member of Local Union 7604 and a member of the Russell Missionary Baptist Church at Glen Fork, where he was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and church clerk. Mr. Acord was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was known as "Paw Paw" to many in the children of the community.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James "Clint" Acord (1928-1970); a sister, Emmaline "Emma" Acord-Jasper (Deceased); and a grandson, Ronnie Lafferty, Jr. (Deceased).

Survivors include his wife, Daphine "Daphne" Day-Acord (1932-2018) whom he married on December 17, 1949 in Glen Fork, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1949, Page 223, Application Date: December 14, 1949) of Glen Fork; two daughters, Carol Anne Acord-Lafferty and husband Ronald "Ronnie" Donald Lafferty Sr. (1950-2012) of Glen Fork and Connie "Jeanette" Acord-Fish-Laxton and husband Frank Fish of Riverdale, GA; three brothers, Raymond Acord and wife Frances Acord of Daily, Charles Acord and wife Flossie Acord of Lynco, and Dean Acord and wife Wilma Acord of Roanoke Rapids, NC; five sisters, Carrie Acord (1930-2008) of Oceana, Josephine Acord-Morgan (1932-2012) of Clear Fork, Ella "Sue" Acord-Vint and husband Rondell Vint of Lynco, Nellie "Mae" Acord-Dalton (1942-2006) and husband Roger Dalton of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Irene Acord-Reid and husband Donald Reid of Berea, KY; three brothers-in-law, Verner Day (1919-2008) of Glen Fork, Elmer Day and wife Hope Day of Mocksville, NC, and Robert Day and wife Mary Ellen Day of South Hills, VA; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Bailey of Glen Fork and Blanche Powers of Glen Fork; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
