Verne Marion (Jack) Alt, 124 Pleasant avenue, Sandy, Oregon, died Saturday night after an illness of about 1-1/2 years. Mr. Alt was born in Portland April 16, 1901 and at the time of his death was 56 years of age.
When a youngster he and his family moved from Portland to the Firwood community near Sandy. He attended Firwood grade school and took later schooling at Sandy. On Aug. 7, 1926 at Gresham he married Miss Eugenia Proctor. They soon moved to Sandy and lived there since. He was formerly mayor of Sandy, a member of the city council, a past master of Sandy A F and A M., a past noble grand of Sandy I.O.O.F., a member of the Library association board, a director of the Sandy rural fire district.
Mr. Alt was an active and participating member of the Sandy Sprotsmen club, as his major hobby was hunting and fishing. He was a logger and farmer by trade. He was also a member of the Mt. Hood Encampment and Sandy grade school budget committee.
The surviving members of his family include his wife Eugenia, 2 sisters and 4 brothers, Mrs. Victoria Nelson of Boring, Mrs. Irene Christians of Astoria, Fred W. of Portland, Carl of Beaverton, Dewey of Portland, and Walter of Sandy.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Carroll funeral home. Vault interment was at Forest Lawn cemetery. Rev. Don Livesay of Sandy Community Presbyterian church offered the services. Mrs. A. K. Bishop played the organ. Sandy A F and A M participated.
