Specialist Five George Rayfield Edwards, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP5 Edwards served our country until May 17th, 1967 in Hua Nghia, South Vietnam. He was 26 years old and was married. It was reported that George died from a mine explosion. His body was recovered. George was born on February 5th, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan. SP5 Edwards is on panel 20E, line 015 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 9 years.

He was a fine paratrooper. George, a long time, since you departed this earth, from a dusty road, in Vietnam. I have not forgotten you, as a fellow soldier, nor, can I erase this day, from memory. Fuller, Lewis Gerald and others, followed you, on this day. May your soul, rest in peace.SP5 Edwards was my driver (M113 Armored Personnel Carrier). He was a fine man. We were moving back into base camp around 10-11AM on May 17, 1967 when SP5 Edwards was taken from the field of battle. I lost other platoon members this day and will always morn their passing. In 1967, I had the fortunate occassion to meet with SP5 Edwards Wife who was in Bad Nauheim Germany. I made it a point to contact her and try to comfort her in any way that I could. May he rest in peace. Former PSG Tom Presley, Platoon Sgt. [email protected]
