From the Sullivan Daily Newspaper, Times July 17, 1906, Page 1; "SUFFOCATED IN WELL - After having fired off a dynamite blast in a new well which he was digging, John Fiscus, a well to do farmer, living five miles northeast of Coal City, met death by suffocation because he entered the pit before t h e fumes and smoke from the explosion had had cleared away.
Fiscus descended into the well a few minutes after the charge of dynamite had exploded, and as a result of inhaling the noxious fumes he died in a short time after he was removed from the well by persons who were close at hand and had heard his cries. Fiscus had a wife and four children."
