Franklin Dean Kaestner went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 9, 2007. He passed from this world at his home in Helena, surrounded by his loved ones.

Dean was born March 27, 1945, in Leon, Iowa, to Almon Monroe Kaestner and Beulah Marie Bowen. After graduating high school and attending college for a time, Dean chose to enlist in the Marine Corps to serve his country during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of Sergeant in only 18 short months of service. Prior to receiving his honorable discharge from the Corps, he married Wanda Lee Ruch. Although they divorced in 1986, they were blessed with two children, Franklin Dean Kaestner II, born in 1967, currently a supervisory firearms and use of force instructor with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Los Angeles and father of four and Karla LeNae Moxley, born in 1970, high school math teacher and varsity girls' basketball coach in Ronan and mother of five.

Dean met and married Debbie Johnson in Tucson, Ariz., in 1989. They were married until June of 1997, when Debbie fell ill suddenly and passed away.

After concentrating on his newly created business for several years, Dean renewed contact with his friend of over 30 years, Lynda Faulkner. On June 30, 2003, Dean married his "sweetie" of over a year, making Lynda his bride. Dean and Lynda demonstrated one of the most incredibly loving marriages to behold, truly an inspiration to those around them. Dean and Lynda were blessed with only a few short years together as husband and wife before he received his cancer diagnosis in March of 2006. While the doctors only estimated that Dean would have three months to live, he demonstrated true will to live and battled the disease for over 15 months so that he could be with his beloved wife and family, declaring, "I'm here until this Marine receives a direct order from God to die!"

Dean was employed by Hot Springs Spas in Helena. He enjoyed serving people in the store and especially enjoyed working for the management of the company. Later in his illness, Lynda was able to work by his side at the store, allowing them even more time together. Dean was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and of the Marine Corps League.

Dean is survived by his wife, Lynda Faulkner; sons and daughters, Franklin Dean II and Leticia Kaestner, Karla (Kaestner) and Martin Kyle Moxley, Dawn (Faulkner) and Paul Valle, and Michael Faulkner; 12 grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (Keith) Elliott of Lamoni, Iowa; and brother, Larry (Judy) Kaestner, of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2007, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Helena, Pastor Doug Vold presiding. Military graveside services will follow at Fort Harrison. Honorary Pall Bearers are F. Dean Kaestner II, Martin Kyle Moxley, Paul Valle, Joel Meyer, Eric Reichert, and Brad Tobel.

OTHER INFORMATION
The obituary is inaccurate for his second wife. Debbie Jones is more likely her name, given that Deborah Lavonne Roberts was her birth name and Deborah L. Jones was her name at the time of her second marriage in 1989. She died in May, not June, of 1997. Franklin Dean Kaestner is inscribed as her husband on a joint headstone in Lamoni, Iowa (see memorial ID 192003455).
