Born in Swarthmore, he lived in Media for 42 years. He retired in 1973 from the Sun Oil Co., in Marcus Hook where he worked as a pipefitter for 28 years. He was also a member of the company's Sapphire Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lorraine Chalfant; two sons, Edward at home and Philil III of Media; one daughter, Gwen Lee Mellor of Ridley Township; one sister, Agnes Donato of Ridley Township; two brothers Charles of Aston and William of Newtown and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday from the J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, Baltimore Ave. and Jackson St., Media. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery., Middletown. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
