Alice Lee (Childress) Winans, daughter of Richard L. and Cassie E (Johnson) Childress was born January 21, 1934 in Knoxville, TN, and departed this life July 25, 2003 in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 69. She spent her early years in Tennessee then the Childress family moved to Warner Robins, GA, in 1947 where on December 9, 1951 she was united in marriage to Clarence S. Winans.
The Winans family moved to Colorado in 1967. Alice was commissioner for the Bobby Sox Softball League in Colorado Springs during the late 1970's, worked for Southland Corporation (7/Eleven) for nine years during the 1980's and worked as a Bus Monitor supervising students with special needs at Harrison School District Two from 1990 until 2000 when she medically retired. She leaves to mourn her passing her children; two sons, Steven S. and Donald E. Winans of Colorado Springs and four daughters, Rebecca L. Brown of Paonia, CO, Jerry L. Largo of Phoenix, AZ, Carol A. Gomez of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brenda S. DeLonge of Keno, OR; 11 grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren.
Alice is survived by five brothers, George Childress of Warner Robins, GA; two brothers who share a special bond with Alice as triplets, Frank Childress of Warner Robins, GA, and Richard Childress of Perry, GA; younger brothers Donald Childress of Vienna, GA, and Douglas Childress of Bonaire, GA. The legacy she leaves is the love she grew to share.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m., at Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel of Peace, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, at Imperial Cemetery, 5450 Hwy 78 West in Pueblo, CO.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 or to the charity of givers choice.
