Marti was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Lillian (Hanner) and Roland Martin. She graduated from Redford High School, and later attended Wayne State University and a satellite campus of Texas A&M. She married (1)Eric Bohn and they had two children, Jannette and Michael. When she and Eric divorced, she relocated with her children to Charlevoix, Michigan, where they grew up. She was employed part-time as a librarian at the Charlevoix Public Library, and as a U.S. mail carrier, but her real passion was interior decorating. On Jan. 4, 2003, she married (2)Dennis Chester and moved to Bay View, Michigan, but Charlevoix was always "home" to her. In 2004, she realized her dream and opened and operated her own interior design company, "A Beautiful View," which specialized in window coverings. She attended Trinity Missionary Church in Petoskey, and continued to work as a volunteer for the Charlevoix Public Library, and also at the Charlevoix Area Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and enjoyed traveling to Texas with her husband to escape winter. For three years, she fought a brave battle against breast cancer. Just weeks before her passing, one of her greatest joys was reuniting with the baby girl she'd placed for adoption years before. Surrounded by her loving husband and friends, she passed away at her home on Burt Lake in Indian River. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dennis; three children, Elizabeth (Benjamin) Dyska of San Francisco, Calif., Jannette (Oscar) Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas, and Michael Bohn of Charlevoix; her mother, Lillian Martin, of Farmington Hills; a sister, Therese Martin, of Farmington Hills; a brother, David (Donna) Martin, of South Lyon, and their son, Benjamin; her former husband, Eric Bohn of Shelby Township, MI; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arthur and Jean Chester; three step-children, Julie (Christopher) Belt of Gaylord, Mich., Rebecca (Troy) Lawrence of Jerome, Mich., and Kevin Chester of Gaylord, Mich.; five step-grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna, Abby, Alex and Maggie; a special friend, Sandee Rhoads; and many other dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Jeanne Martin; and a brother, Paul Martin. A memorial service was held at Trinity Missionary Church in Petoskey, with Pastor Steve Beigle officiating.
