MATHEWS, Va. -- Graveside service for Timothy John O'Malley, 58, Mathews, Va., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gwynn's Island Cemetery, Grimstead, Va.
Dr. O'Malley died Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
Arrangements are under direction of Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va.
He was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Brownwood, Texas. He was raised in a Coast Guard family who were transferred frequently, and he attended five different schools in the first grade. He attended his last four years at Churchland High School, Portsmouth. He served two years as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance attendant. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in May 1968, and achieved the rank of hospital corpsman first class in four years. He was a 1973 graduate of the VCU/MCV School of Pharmacy and a member of Rho Chi and Chi Omega. He was a 1981 graduate of the VCU/MCV School of Dentistry, and practiced both professions in Richmond for 34 years. During that time he was a member of and involved in many professional and civic organizations including RPHA, VPHA, APHA, VDA, ADA, RDA, The Tuesday Club, The James River Catfish Club, Richmond Public Schools PTA and The Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Wednesday Night Bible Study and was a former vestry member.
Survivors include three children: Kendall Leigh O'Malley, John Dixon O'Malley and Reece Lawton O'Malley; his father, John Dixon O'Malley; a sister, Rose Lynn O'Malley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Russell O'Malley.
